AMBi - the intersectional space for wellbeing in Vienna

 About AMBi

AMBi - the intersectional space for wellbeing offers holistic wellness and health services and is open to all. A particular focus lies on multiple marginalized communities in Vienna who identify as BIPoCs and/or queer, trans and inter.

AMBi curates the services, premises, equipment and use of language around the wellbeing of all customers and around actively removing barriers in the process – on a structural, communicative, social, economic, interpersonal and institutional level.

SUPPORT AMBi’s QOLLECTIVE CARE FUND

Make our health & wellbeing offerings affordable for queer, trans, inter & BIPoCs in the heart of Vienna!

Based on our own experiences, we - Sunanda, Niki, and Julian - know how important practitioners and safer spaces are that specialize in our needs as People of Color and queer, trans individuals. In addition to our training in the areas of āyurvedic massage, shiatsu, scar treatments and classic massage, it is our embodied knowledge that sets us apart from other wellness spaces in Vienna. Our focus is based on lived experience and builds on trauma-informed, barrier-conscious, gender-affirming, and anti-racist principles.

More and more studies show that people who are exposed to racism, ableism, queer- and transantagonism are at higher risk for cardiovascular disease, diabetes, depression, anxiety disorders, post-traumatic stress disorder, and other chronic illnesses. That's why a place like AMBi – which focuses on the wellbeing, care and preventive treatment for queer, trans, inter, and BIPoCs in Vienna – is so unique and important.

In the past year we invested a lot in the wheelchair accessibility of AMBi including bathroom and toilet – now we need your help to make AMBi also more financially accessible.

With €6,000, we can provide 120 low cost massages, scar treatments, and Shiatsu sessions. With €15,000, we can also offer 6 free Qollective Care Days and hold 4 free workshops on collective and individual self-care, including an accessibility budget.

Help ensure that no one has to go without healing touch and collective care due to a lack of funds – your donation makes a difference!

Offerings

The expansive range of wellness services and the intersectional approach and renovation with reduction of barriers make AMBi a unique place of wellbeing in Vienna. Āyurvedic sessions, massages and bodywork services by Sunanda Mesquita are complemented by treatments from AMBi's in-house practitioners, who offer holistic, preventative and palliative methods for physical and mental wellbeing from the fields of massage, shiatsu, physiotherapy and osteopathy - and share visions in the areas of queer, trans empowerment and anti-racism.

AMBi Practitioners

SUNANDA MESQUITA

(dey/deren)

AMBi was brought into being by Sunanda Mesquita, a Vienna based, Goan-Swiss transdisciplinary artist, curator and Āyurvedic Wellness practitioner. At the center of their practice stands the envisioning of a radical, utopian, queer, feminist collectivity of BIPoCs and topics of community, solidarity and belonging.

NIKI FLIERMAN

(she/her)

Niki practiced at AMBi since December 2024 and, thanks to her experience in healthcare and nursing, combines Western and Eastern medicine and reaches people where they need it. An important approach for her is to use Shiatsu to reach people who do not yet feel addressed by conventional wellness services. She focuses on reduction of stress and Burn-Out prevention. With her Shiatsu work, she offers a safe space for LGBTQI+ and BiPoCs.

JULIAN REICHEGGER

(he/him)

Since December 2024 Julian offers various massages ranging from classic massage, foot reflex massage to connective tissue massage at AMBi. He is specialised in the field of lymphatic drainage and scar treatments after operations - this area also includes post-operative scar treatment for trans people. This field is barely established in the Austrian healthcare sector.
